John Byrne Vase
John Byrne Vase – Hand-Coiled by a Tetraplegic Potter in Scotland
This vase isn’t just art—it’s defiance in clay.
Hand-coiled in my Scottish studio as a tetraplegic ceramicist with a hand impairment, this piece is both a personal triumph and a tribute to the wild, unconventional genius of Scottish artist John Byrne. Every coil, every contour, is formed slowly and deliberately—without a wheel, using adaptive tools and techniques I’ve developed to suit my body and spirit.
Byrne’s bold storytelling and off-kilter characters resonate deeply with me, and this vase reflects that same energy: expressive, resilient, and impossible to ignore.
